Citibank just got a $500 million lesson in the importance of UI design

We always new that good user interface design is important to ensure that software-based systems are easy to use and effective. But they also play a critical role in the governance and transparency of key business processes. And when this goes wrong, it can go spectacularly wrong.

A federal judge has ruled that Citibank isn’t entitled to the return of $500 million it sent to various creditors last August. Kludgey software and a poorly designed user interface contributed to the massive screwup.
